Moseley Primary School is located approximately one mile from Coventry City Centre and has 384 full time pupils plus 48 children in nursery.
The school needed to expand its nursery places for 2-4 year olds to provide 32 additional places. Coventry City Council created a design for a new extension that blended in with the form of the existing building, using the same material palette of the extension with white render walling and grey aluminium window frames with a single ply roof.
The commencement of the project was during term time, the new extension was at the front of the building on the existing hard surfacing. During the occupied period we kept disruption to a minimum and phased the lobby alterations, as to not impact on the normal arrangements for visitors, pupils and parents.
The construction of the extension consisted of: new drainage, remodelling of the foundations, steel frame, mechanical and electrical, vinyl and matting flooring, suspended ceilings, new washroom including disabled toilets, installation of a kitchen, decorations, block paving and external works.
The lobby was reconfigured and extended to form a new nursery entrance, allowing for wheelchair access.
The programme for the works was 16 weeks and was managed with a strict programme in order to handover for opening in September, this was achieved on time and to budget.
